IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

Instructor Bill Sayers (left first row) along with twenty-one students constructed a garage at the Springfield home of Jack and Rose Gage.
Jack and Rose Gage along with daughter, Meg Richards, hosted lunch for the twenty-one students from the Platteview High School building trades after the construction of a 24’ x 20’ garage in the Gages’ backyard. The construction happened in 1987 with three crews of students along with PHS building trades instructor Bill Sayers. Crew #1 consisted of students: foreman Doug Pearson, assistant foreman Rick Becker, and crew: Travis Brown, Dean Grell, John Kotrba, Brian Sears, and Ron Vandervort. Crew #2 consisted of foreman Rick Scraeder, assistant foreman Corky Turner, and crew John Dickerson, Bill Hempel, Tim Pugh, John Shannon and Barry Way. Crew #3 consisted of foreman Mike Swantek, assistant foreman David Taylor and crew Ben Flink, Jay Johnson, Scott Riha, and Jake Shields. Class members spent an hour each day during the month of October working on the garage construction.

MAIN STREET ROAD WORK
Road improvements on Main Street from L A Bates to 10th Avenue are currently underway. Residents should expect ongoing Main Street closures in various forms over the next several weeks. Depending on the need of construction, road access may be limited to only one lane or both lanes closed at times. Please be prepared to use an alternate route at any point.
Please be patient during this construction phase to improve Springfield’s Main Street.
PLATTEVIEW ROAD IMPROVEMENT
Platteview Road from 2nd Street to 5th Avenue will begin this Fall with new asphalt overlayment. Please be patient during the road construction work and the associated lane impactment.
