The Veteran’s Day program at Platteview High School in 1988 opened with Springfield American Legion Post 143 commander, Joel C. Harms, welcoming veterans and guests. The event that year titled, “A Program of Patriotism”, commenced with the Legion color guard advancing and retiring the colors. Platteview High School student, Julia Ybarra, shared patriotic poems and an excerpt from a book featuring children living in war torn countries. Father Robert Preisinger from St. Joseph Catholic Church performed the invocation and benediction. The high school band played the “National Anthem”, “America the Beautiful”, and “God Bless America” under the direction of band director, Robert Leigh. “Soldier Boy” and “Let Freedom Ring” were sung by Platteview Concert Choir. We are proud the Platteview High School’s Veteran’s Day program is a tradition that continues to this day.
MAIN STREET ROAD WORK
Road improvements on Main Street from L A Bates to 10th Avenue are currently underway. Residents should expect ongoing Main Street closures in various forms over the next several weeks.
