Springfield Cafe advertisement for Grand Opening specials in the Springfield Monitor newspaper, September 18, 1958 issue.
A grand opening for the Springfield Café was held on September 20, 1958. Owners, Mr. & Mrs. Hilbert Meier completely remodeled the restaurant portion of the bar and café. The remodeled area included a soda fountain, short order counter, and ten tables to accommodate fifty-five customers. Full meals, short orders, and soda fountain specialties were on the daily menu. The Springfield Café was located at 145 Main Street. Satin Hanger bridal shop is currently located in the same space.

FACEBOOK COMMUNITY ACTION GRANT CYCLE ANNOUNCED
On Monday September 13, 2021 Facebook announced that it is accepting applications for the new cycle of its Community Action Grants. These annual grants support the long-term vitality of Sarpy County by addressing local needs with financial support to nonprofit organizations and schools for projects that:
Put the power of technology to use for community benefit;
Connect people online or off;
Improve local science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.
Eligibility guidelines and an online application link are available here. Applications are being accepted now through October 15, 2021. A Facebook page is not required to apply for a grant. Eligible organizations can apply at www.cybergrants.com/facebook/DataCenterGrantsUSA.

Banister's Leadership Academy is so excited to be starting our Night L.I.F.E (Leadership in Fun Environments) Program in Springfield to help strengthen youth and families in the community!
Our Night L.I.F.E. Program will be held at the Springfield Community Center, on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays each month from 4PM to 8PM starting Thursday, September 23rd. Our Night L.I.F.E. Program provides structure & stability where boys & girls K-8th grade will receive a hot meal & be empowered with leadership, life, & social skills in a fun environment. Youth are engaged through leadership education, group mentoring, team building activities, organized sports, academic support, family engagement, field trips & special events. MAIN STREET ROAD WORK
Road improvements on Main Street from L A Bates to 10th Avenue are currently underway. Residents should expect ongoing Main Street closures in various forms over the next several weeks. Depending on the need of construction, road access may be limited to only one lane or both lanes closed at times. Please be prepared to use an alternate route at any point.
Please be patient during this construction phase to improve Springfield’s Main Street.
PLATTEVIEW ROAD IMPROVEMENT
Platteview Road from 2nd Street to 5th Avenue will begin this Fall with new asphalt overlayment. Please be patient during the road construction work and the associated lane impactments.
