IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

2001 Springfield Library time capsule

2011 Time Capsule items
In 2001 during construction of the new Springfield Memorial Library a time capsule was inserted one of the interior walls on the south side of the building. Library Foundation president, Dorothy Foged, predicted the south side would be the location for future expansion. Ten years later the prediction came true. The library added an addition and the time capsule was retrieved with the items inside which included: newspaper articles, grocery and vehicle advertisements, a brief history of the library, the year “2000” coins and a gold dollar, names of Springfield city council and city administration, and a copy of the Springfield Monitor newspaper. During construction of the addition to the library, the time capsule was retrieved. Items from 2011 were added. The time capsule is now enclosed in one of the walls of the addition to the library. This week the library will celebrate 20 years in their location with an Open House on Thursday September 30 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m.. All are welcome to visit.
