MAIN STREET ROAD WORK
Road improvements on Main Street from L A Bates to 10th Avenue began this week. Residents should expect ongoing Main Street closures in various forms over the next several weeks. Depending on the need of construction, road access may be limited to only one lane or both lanes closed at times. Please be prepared to use an alternate route at any point.
Driveways to Springfield State Bank and Springfield Memorial Library will remain open at all times.
Driveway access to Springfield Elementary will be impacted over the next couple of weeks. Both drives may be out of service at the same time, which will affect access to the school.
The goal is to have both driveways at the school complete and open by August 11, so as not to impact driveway access when school opens on August 18.
Unfortunately, the parade route for the Sarpy County Fair will be reduced due to construction. The parade will begin on South 6th Street instead of South 9th as originally planned.
Please be patient during this construction phase to improve Springfield’s Main Street.
PLATTEVIEW ROAD IMPROVEMENT
Platteview Road from 2nd Street to 5th Avenue will begin this Fall with new asphalt overlayment. Please be patient during the road construction work and the associated lane impactments.

IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

The Fiegenbaum home in 1911. The little girls pictured (left to right) Louise Fiegenbaum, Roberta Fiegenbaum, and Margaret Elwell.
Henry Fiegenbaum operated a drug store at 153 Main Street from 1903 to 1930. He sold a wide variety of goods in addition to medicines and medical supplies. His store also sold Sherwin-Williams and Mound City paint. The Fiegenbaum family lived in a home on South 4th Street. The home had a unique front porch situated with angled steps. The house still stands today with the existing angled porch steps. If you do not know where this house is located, you are challenged to locate the Fiegenbaum home.

OPPD Scam Alert
OPPD is, once again, noticing a spike in the number of reports we are receiving about scam phone calls from our customers. From what we’re hearing, utility scammers picked up the pace over the weekend and are continuing today, posing as OPPD employees and threatening to disconnect our customers’ power if they don’t pay up for allegedly overdue bills or other things. These calls are not legitimate. We ask customers to hang up and dial OPPD directly at 402-536-4131 if you have any questions about your bill or payment status.
