MAIN STREET ROAD WORK
Road improvements on Main Street from L A Bates to 10th Avenue began this week. Residents should expect ongoing Main Street closures in various forms over the next several weeks. Depending on the need of construction, road access may be limited to only one lane or both lanes closed at times. Please be prepared to use an alternate route at any point.
Driveways to Springfield State Bank and Springfield Memorial Library will remain open at all times.
Driveway access to Springfield Elementary will be impacted over the next couple of weeks. Both drives may be out of service at the same time, which will affect access to the school.
The goal is to have both driveways at the school complete and open by August 11, so as not to impact driveway access when school opens on August 18.
Unfortunately, the parade route for the Sarpy County Fair will be reduced due to construction. The parade will begin on South 6th Street instead of South 9th as originally planned.
Thank you for your patience during this construction phase to improve Springfield’s Main Street.
PLATTEVIEW ROAD IMPROVEMENT
Platteview Road from 2nd Street to 5th Avenue will soon begin new asphalt overlayment. Please be patient during the road construction work and the associated lane impactments.

LATHAM LUMBER & HARDWARE, est. 1947
In 1947 Phil and Hazel Latham purchased a lumber and hardware business located at 165 So 2nd Street from Taylor Jarman. Since the year 1881 a lumber company was located on this site. The first being the Ida Bradford Lumber Co. Latham Lumber and Hardware Company was managed for many years by Harold Engberg and Tom Murphy who both gave excellent advice on home building and improvements. Your entire building needs could be purchased from Latham Lumber. In 1964 a new building was constructed for the business. After thirty years, the Latham’s sold the business to Tom Rosser in July 1977. Today the building is owned by Timmerman Land & Cattle Co.
