WELCOME BACK!
Hey Springfield, I’m writing this on a chilly, rainy Monday — but the good news is it’s supposed to warm up soon! It’s hard to believe how quickly time is moving. Fall activities are in full swing, conference tournaments and district events are just around the corner, and Parent-Teacher Conferences will be here before we know it.
Important Dates to Remember:
- End of 1st Quarter: Friday, October 10
- Parent-Teacher Conferences: October 15 & 16
- Platteview High School Fall Retake Picture Day: October 8
As the rain clears and warmer weather returns, it’s the perfect time for a little fall clean-up.
Take advantage of the dry days ahead to tidy up the yard, trim back those perennials, and get your lawn ready for its long winter nap. A little prep now means you can truly relax and enjoy the beauty of fall before it slips away.
Enjoy the week ahead, stay warm, and don’t forget to take in the beauty of the season while it lasts!

It Happened in Springfield
The Continuing History of Springfield’s Churches
Advent Church
Springfield’s Advent Church was situated at 360 Main Street. After the church disbanded, the
building was eventually transformed into a home by Lester Ball for his family. Unfortunately, the Library has no records indicating when this renovation took place. Baptist Church
The original site of Springfield’s early Baptist Church is now occupied by the Masonic Temple
at 4th & Main Street. In the 1960s, the Baptist congregation held services at the former
Congregational Church on South 3rd Street. The Springfield Baptist Church disbanded following
the worship service on July 7, 1968. In 2010, Baptist church members began holding services at
Springfield Elementary School as a branch of the Bellevue Baptist Church. In June 2012, the
Springfield city council granted the Baptist congregation permission to purchase the old Stacks
Bar located at 189 Locust Street. After remodeling, members of the Baptist Church celebrated
their first worship service in the updated building shortly thereafter.
Our Redeemer Lutheran Church
Our Redeemer Lutheran Church held its inaugural service on October 20, 1963, with Pastor Otte
N. Truog officiating. Initially, services took place at the American Legion Hall; however, as
attendance grew, the Lutheran Sunday service was moved to the Springfield Community
Building. In March 1966, two lots were acquired at the corner of 3rd and Elm Street, followed by
an additional four lots in November 1966. A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of
the Lutheran church took place on May 18, 1967, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church was
officially dedicated on May 5, 1968.
St. Joseph Parish
In 1971, a weekly Mass was conducted every Saturday evening at Springfield Elementary. At
that time, Springfield served as a mission church of St. Columbkille in Papillion. As the number
of parishioners increased, a meeting was organized with Rev. Robert Steinhausen to explore the
possibility of establishing a parish in Springfield. On April 11, 1980, the parish was officially
named St. Joseph, and the boundary lines were drawn. In September 1982, Fr. Robert Preisinger
was appointed the pastor of the Springfield’s first Catholic Church. The new St. Joseph Church
was dedicated on October 20, 1985, at 9th & Main Street.

COME ON OVER!
This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.
Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.

Confucius states, “Virtue is not left to stand alone. He who practices it will have neighbors.” — Analects
True virtue naturally draws others in. When we live with integrity, discipline, and kindness, we don’t stand alone — we inspire, uplift, and create connection. People are drawn to light, not noise.
