Welcome Back Springfield!
Hey Springfield, have you heard about Adventure Lab? If not, it’s a free APP and fun way to explore our state parks while playing an interactive game. You use the app to follow clues, answer questions, and unlock adventures as you go.
Recently, we checked out Schram Park, Louisville Park, Platte River State Park, and Mahoney Park—and by the end of the day we had walked 20,000 steps without even realizing it! Adventure Lab is perfect for family outings, hanging out with friends, or even a solo adventure. It turns a simple walk into a discovery-filled quest where every trail feels like part of the game.
Download the free Adventure Lab app, grab your crew, and start exploring today!
I would love to hear from you! If you’ve tried Adventure Lab around Springfield or at one of our nearby state parks, share your story or photos—we might feature them in a future newsletter!
Onto Springfield community news.

Pickleball Is Coming to Main Street! Soon, I was told keep checking back for dates.
Little history on PB
Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, by three dads—Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum—who were looking for a new game to entertain their families. Using a badminton court, a perforated plastic ball (like a Wiffle ball), and homemade paddles, they created a sport that blended elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.
The game’s name has two origin stories: some say it came from Pritchard’s dog, Pickles, who loved chasing the ball; others claim it came from the term “pickle boat” in rowing, where leftover rowers are mixed together, much like how pickleball combined different sports.
Over the years, pickleball has grown from a backyard pastime to one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S. and worldwide, with leagues, tournaments, and courts popping up everywhere.
Average age nowaday is about 35, thanks to the surge of players in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.
- That said, over 50% of “core” players (those who play regularly) are 55 and older.
Stay tuned—Main Street is about to get a lot more competitive (and a whole lot more fun)!

Westmont Elemetary
Little note from MRS. BECK
Hello! My name is Elysia Beck and I am the Westmont PTO president. We are hosting our annual Fall Harvest Festival on Thursday, October 23rd from 6-8. This event is our only fundraiser for the entire year. At the event we host a silent auction and this is where I need your help. If you are a business, big or small and would love to donate an item or basket, or sponsor something at the event, please reach out. I can also come to you if that is easier. We rely on the community and the families to help us support the amazing students and staff at Westmont Elementary! Thank you for all your support!
This Thursday at Westmont Elementary is partnering again with Godfather's Pizza to encourage kindness. They have such a great program - Be Nice Earn a Slice. Students that show kindness could earn coupons for free pizza.

It Happen in Springfield
No, it didn’t happen in Springfield this week — but Husker fans may have noticed extra protection at Memorial Stadium. With 90,000+ people in one location, it’s a smart decision to have the training and assets of the LPD SWAT Team already on the ground, should the need arise. Some of their work is visible, some behind the scenes — all focused on keeping fans safe so you can cheer on the Huskers! #GBR

COME ON OVER!
This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.
