Welcome Back Springfield!

Hey Springfield—Happy First Week of September!
Labor Day is behind us, and fall is already knocking at the door. That means it’s almost time for Driver’s Ed registration—opening September 10th!

Did you know the ESU Driver Education Department has been rolling strong since the 1960s? In fact, we launched the very first Driver’s Ed program in Nebraska. Our directors helped shape what is now the state’s official curriculum, and to this day, we’re still led by some of the same dedicated teachers who started with us decades ago.

While the rules of the road have changed over time, our mission hasn’t: to prepare confident, safe drivers for the road ahead. And maybe get a discout on Insurance or at least let them be Marked as permitted and not rated.

 Onto Springfield community news.

Pickleball Is Coming to Main Street!
Plans are still be Planned. I will keep looking for updates!

Little history on PB

Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, by three dads—Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum—who were looking for a new game to entertain their families. Using a badminton court, a perforated plastic ball (like a Wiffle ball), and homemade paddles, they created a sport that blended elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.

The game’s name has two origin stories: some say it came from Pritchard’s dog, Pickles, who loved chasing the ball; others claim it came from the term “pickle boat” in rowing, where leftover rowers are mixed together, much like how pickleball combined different sports.

Over the years, pickleball has grown from a backyard pastime to one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S. and worldwide, with leagues, tournaments, and courts popping up everywhere.

Average age nowaday is about 35, thanks to the surge of players in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.

  • That said, over 50% of “core” players (those who play regularly) are 55 and older.

Stay tuned—Main Street is about to get a lot more competitive (and a whole lot more fun)!

Insurance Tip– none rate on Permitted Drivers

Did you know? With Farmers, your children aren’t rated as drivers until they turn 18. That can make a big difference in your premiums!

Call me for more details—I’d be happy to walk you through it. And by the way, rates are the best I’ve seen since I started here!

Fit Tip of the Week - Soup Season is Here!

Fall is the perfect time to fuel your body with hearty, healthy soups. Skip the heavy cream bases and load up on broth, lean protein, and colorful veggies. Soups not only warm you up—they’re also a great way to pack in nutrients while keeping calories light.

Pro tip: Make a big batch on Sunday and you’ve got ready-to-go meals for the week. Fast, healthy, and perfect for chilly evenings!

COME ON OVER!

This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity.  People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.

Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.
