Welcome back Springfield!

Hey Springfield, we’re in what’s often called the Dog Days of Summer. A few weeks ago, I shared how this phrase comes from the rising of Sirius—the Dog Star—when the heat feels at its peak. Can you feel it now? Long, warm days that seem endless, yet you can already sense the subtle shift.

It’s also been a week since school started—a sure sign that summer is winding down. The rhythms of fall are already here, with school events and activities filling up the calendar.

I recently learned a beautiful word from Portuguese: saudade. It’s that late-summer melancholy—when everything looks golden and alive, but you can already feel time moving toward shorter days and cooler nights. It’s the sweet ache of the seasons changing.

Picture it: Golden hour rides along the cornfields—beautiful and bittersweet. The fields glow, sunsets blaze brighter, and I pedal knowing summer is quietly slipping into fall.

Take a moment to look around Springfield—have you noticed the gold in our own community? The fields, the sunflowers, the tall corn—it all stands proud right now, reminding us to savor the beauty before the season turns.

Pickleball Is Coming to Main Street!
Big news from the Community Building: the gym floor has just been refinished and it’s shining like new! And now, we’re serving up something fresh...

Pickleball is officially coming soon! The court lines are in place, the net is on its way, and we’re getting ready to launch what might become Main Street’s favorite new pastime.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or have never picked up a paddle, this is your chance to get in on the fun. We’re even planning a Free Pickleball Night, where residents can reserve a complimentary hour of play to try it out.

Stay tuned—Main Street is about to get a lot more competitive (and a whole lot more fun)!

It Happen in Springfield

The History of Behm School

Behm School, a one-room school, was part of Springfield School District 32. It was situated at what is now the southwest corner of Highway 50 and Pflug Road, operating from 1876 to 1884. In 1876, School District #32 purchased an acre of land to establish Behm School. In 1884, Springfield built a new school to replace the one in town on South 3rd Street. Following this, Behm School closed its doors. In 1885, James D. Spearman had acquired the building and
land from the school district. The one room school was converted into a residence. In 1973, the Willard Dill estate, formerly Behm school, located at Highway 50 and Pflug Road was auctioned for $20,000. Willard Dill had purchased the property in 1938. Dill’s son Raymond, said an addition had been constructed to the original school house. This house is considered one of the oldest in the area, possibly in the entire county.

Insurance Tip– Teen Drivers
With Farmers, if you have a new teen driver in your household, be sure to call your insurance agent. Teen drivers with a learner’s permit can be added to your policy, but they won’t be rated until they are licensed drivers at 18. This simple step helps keep your policy accurate and can save you money!nsurance agent. Why? Because most standard personal auto policies do not cover delivery or commercial use.

Fit Tip of the Week - “I am strong,” “I trust myself,” “I am moving forward”
The words you speak shape your mindset, but action makes them real. Start with a simple affirmation like “I am strong”—then back it up with action. Words spark belief, but action proves it.

Wanna see the golden hour? Get on your bike or take a walk and head down to the Mopac Trail. The fields glow, the sunsets shine brighter, and movement turns affirmation into truth.

COME ON OVER!

This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity.  People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.

Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.
