Welcome Back
Hey Springfield, did you hear the buzz? Springfield Artworks has just been named a winner in the Omaha World-Herald’s Choice Awards under the Recreation & Entertainment – Art Gallery category!
That’s right — our small-town gem, owned and operated by Glenn and Margie Trembley, stood out among galleries across the region thanks to you, the community, who voted and showed your support.
The Choice Awards highlight local favorites in categories that make life richer — from food and shopping to entertainment and recreation. The Art Gallery section celebrates creative spaces that inspire, teach, and bring people together through visual and wearable art. And that’s exactly what Springfield Artworks does.
This boutique, working studio and gallery is more than just a place to admire beautiful things — it’s a hands-on space where you can experience fiber art, millinery, bold contemporary glass, surface design, and one-of-a-kind wearable creations. Whether you’re a student, a collector, or just a curious neighbor, it’s a place where creativity is always flowing.
- This win gives Springfield Artworks regional recognition and spotlights Springfield as a cultural destination.
- It shows that our town supports the arts, and values unique, locally-driven experiences.
- And most of all, it’s a reminder that community matters. Your votes helped make this possible.
So if you haven’t been by in a while — or ever — now’s the time. Pop in, say congrats to Glenn & Margie, and ask them about the award, their latest creations, or how they built such a vibrant space right here in Springfield. They’ll be happy to share — all you have to do is go say Hi!
Before I wrap up the into I want to ask a Quick question — do you love old books? I sure do. I’ve had my eye on a few vintage treasures over at Robin’s Nest, and let’s just say… I’m a sucker for the smell of aging pages and forgotten stories. I already have a growing stash, but somehow there’s always room for one more.

It Happen in Springfield
In 1950, Louis and Pearl Kestler established the Kestler Variety Store at 191 Main Street. They
offered a wide range of products, including toys, candy, knick-knacks, school supplies, clothing,
beauty items, and much more. Their operating hours were similar to those of Shepler’s Grocery
Store, located next door, allowing shoppers to conveniently purchase necessary items from both stores, much like we do today at superstores.
In 1962, the Kestlers sold the building to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shipley, who ran a variety store for five years. Following that, Bill Oliver acquired the building to launch the Springfield Building & Supply, specializing in appliances, fixtures, tools, and equipment. After two years of operation, Ken Erdman and Chris Nielsen bought the building from Oliver and transformed it into Nielsen
& Erdman Accounting. They enlisted local contractors, Lape and Blum, along with Metzger’s Electric, to modernize the space with heating and central air. In 1982, Nielsen and Erdman relocated to Omaha, selling the building to Mike Leibentritt, who moved his dental practice from across the street. Dr. Mike’s son, Matt, still operates Liebentritt Family Dentistry at the same
location.

Fit Tip of the Week – Write It Down, Work It Out
It’s a few days after the 4th—fireworks are over, and now it’s time to get back on track. If you’ve got big goals, don’t just think about them—write them down.
Track your workouts.
Write down what you eat.
Review it. See what’s working, what’s not, and where you can improve.
This simple habit keeps you honest, focused, and motivated. Small changes add up—but only if you can see them.
Goals don’t just happen. Track them, tweak them, and go after them.

Insurance Tip of the Week – Vandalism coverage
Vandalism can happen when you least expect it—whether it's a keyed car, broken windows, or damage to your home or property. The good news? Most auto and homeowners policies do cover vandalism, but it’s always smart to double-check.
- For auto: Vandalism is usually covered under comprehensive coverage.
- For home: It’s typically part of your standard policy, but deductibles apply.
Not sure if you’re covered or what your deductible is?
Let’s take a quick look at your policy together. It only takes a minute, and it could save you a major headache if something unexpected happens.
Questions? I’m here to help!

COME ON OVER!
This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.
Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.’”
— C.S. Lewis
This quote reminds us that community often begins in shared experiences and mutual understanding—it’s in those honest, simple moments that real connection forms
