Welcome Back
Hey Springfield!, I wanted to take a moment to wish all the 2025 Platteview High School graduates the very best. You did it!
I hope you enjoy a great summer — and I hope you take these words to heart: this is only the beginning. Go out there and make it count!
Last Week of School! It’s the final week for Springfield schools — and what a year it’s been!
Wednesday marks the last day of the school year, and then it’s full steam into summer.
Summer School and Driver’s Ed will begin in June, and schedules are already posted. Be sure to check with the school or online for all the details!
Now, let’s move on to this week’s news…
With graduation comes summer, and we kick it all off with Memorial Day, a powerful reminder of those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.
Right after that comes one of our favorite local traditions: Springfield Days!
Springfield Days is for the community — and we are the community.
We’ve got an amazing library that keeps all kinds of fun going for families, and we’ve got fundraisers that help keep the heart of Springfield beating strong.
Have you seen all the fun at the library the night before the Duck Race?
It’s packed with activities for the whole family! Check out the full list in the Save the Date section below.
Let’s keep supporting what makes Springfield special!
The Lucky Duck Race is Coming Up!
Yes, it’s that time again—ducks are splashing their way down Main Street with a little help from our awesome local Volunteer Fire Department! (Don’t worry, no actual ducks were harmed in the making of this splash zone.)
Get your Lucky Duck Race tickets at the Springfield Memorial Library and get in on a chance to win some incredible prizes:
A 10x10 room painted by local artist Dylan Frese (check him out at purepaints.org)
A Springfield Basket full of goodies from our local shops
A family pass to the Kiewit Luminarium
A cozy coffee basket from downtown
Free ice cream from the always-amazing Dari Cream
NEW! A full Chicken Coop donated by Tractor Supply — our biggest prize yet!
Tickets go fast, so don’t miss out!
Before the Ducks… Comes the Parade!
The Springfield Parade is the perfect kickoff: vibrant floats, our amazing local school bands, smiling kids tossing candy, and that hometown pride we all love.
Springfield — we’ve got a lot to be proud of.
New businesses, great people, and a community that continues to show up for one another.
Let’s keep the energy going — and I’ll see you at the parade! Hey, don't forget to sign up for the Springfield Days Grand Parade! It kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7th. Let's turn this parade into a show-stopping extravaganza—register now and join the fun! Power Outage Season - Meet Joey the Outage Superman

Last year, we survived 5 days of no power.
We survived by hanging out at the local - Millard Branch of the Omaha Public Library.
The library had power, and provided free mobile phone charging, air conditioning and critically WiFi.
Our business (and livelihood) depends on nearly constant connection to the internet.
The prior year we had a 2 day power outage, that simply forced an early vacation and nightly hotels where electricity was available.
With the 2025 season of heavy weather, and power outages ahead, we were looking around for a better solution.
We had the great fortune of Meeting Joey Gillett - of Assured Electric.
In my experience a gas powered generator, was a small device with a 120vac outlet. If you had an extension cord you could connect a coffee maker.
Nice, but not a solution for a home with air conditioning, electric stove, washer and dryer. Not a power outage solution.
Power Outage Superman Joey smiled and described a generator that had a 3-phase/240v 50am outlet - and a "smart switch" to switch your home breaker box from OPPD to this small generator.
We were stunned, does this work? - Joey explained he had installed several. We asked Joey for a proposal and it was 1/3 of my expectations.
We asked Joey to proceed! In a short time Joey, and his person Nick - installed the "smart switch" under the electric meter on the back of our home.
The smart switch could sense if power was coming from OPPD - if not it will switch our home to the Generator 240v option - and then back to oppd when they were back.
Wow! What a stress reliever!! for the cost of power outage insurance, we have real power outage insurance!
Power outages, not only some from wind and fallen branches. For years there has been concern that our power grid was vulnerable to attack,
if we found ourself at war, and experienced a high altitude EMP or a natural Solar Flare. Both of which could take out the Power Grid for months
I recommend you give Power Outage Superman Joey a call at: 402-594-4515 or visit his website at https://OmahaElectrician.us email him with the contact form.
thanks Joey - Computer John

It Happen in Springfield
In 1918, the brand-new Springfield Public School at South Third and Spruce opened for classes
for all Springfield students. The building served the town of Springfield for sixty-seven years. In
1957 after Nebraska legislation was enacted, Sarpy County schools began the required school
district consolidation process. Once construction began for a senior high school for the newly
formed School District#46, Springfield Public School’s final high school class graduated in
1960. Eventually the majority of pupils in the school district attended newly built senior high,
junior high, and elementary schools. Up until 1979, some lessons were still held at the
Springfield Public School building and until 1982 the school district headquarters were also
housed there. Its primary function after was storage. After years of service to Springfield, the
building's future looked uncertain. Although the structure was sound the school district could not afford to renovate it to comply with building requirements. For those who took attended classes
at the former school, the building held many fond memories. The school district board voted to
sell the building in January 1985. A final proposal was approved following two and a half years
of discussions with potential bidders. The sale of the old Springfield Public School was
authorized by the school board in June 1987.

Photo 2: The “Vintage Building” became the new name for the old Springfield Public School
after closing. The building was open for a self-guided tour for school alumni attending the
annual Alumni Banquet on May 25, 1985. Former student, Greg Latham, took photos for alumni during the tour for a nominal fee.

--------------
Insurance Tip of the Week – Review Your Deductibles Annually
Your deductible is what you pay out of pocket before your insurance kicks in—but did you know it can change without you noticing? Some companies adjust deductibles based on home value or percentage models (like 2% of your dwelling coverage).
Tip: Review your policy each year to make sure your deductibles are still a good fit for your budget—especially with rising home values and inflation.

COME ON OVER!
This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.
Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.
