IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

In 1982 Springfield celebrated its centennial year with special festivities and events on July 3rd & 4th. Featured in the 2p.m. Centennial Day Parade was an 80-year-old high wheel farm wagon with an original spring seat. The wagon still had the original paint and black tires. It had never been overhauled and was still in use on the farm. The tractor and a cultivator were purchased from Grube and Thompson Implement Dealers in Papillion for $1500 by Ben Cain. His son, Harold Cain, drove the wagon accompanied by his wife, Pauline, using a 1953 John Deere A tractor with full burner.
