IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

Looking east towards Springfield. Note the Water Tower on the upper right side of the photo.
An election was held on July 21, 1903 for the purpose of determining whether or not Springfield would install a water system. The bonds carried with 82 for and 23 against. Immediately after the mayor and city council began to accept bids by a number of different contractors. A bid from J.B. Nicholson of $6,873.75 was accepted on January 14, 1904. The contractor got busy installing the new water system. Springfield residents were never sorry that they voted for the new water system and the twenty-three opposing parties were no doubt apologetic that they were antagonists to the project.
