Springfield Masonic Lodge Community Egg Hunt
The countdown is on for a Springfield tradition — the Annual Springfield Masonic Lodge Community Egg Hunt! This is such a great event that many families look forward to every year. The Masonic Lodge always does an amazing job putting it together, and the kids have a blast hunting eggs and receiving some really nice prizes and gifts.
Be sure to mark your calendars and bring the kids out for a fun morning!
Pickleball at the Community Building
Pickleball is now happening at the Community Building and it’s becoming a fun midweek activity.
Tuesdays & Thursdays
12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Spots are limited, so you’ll need to reserve a one-hour time slot in advance. Participants must be 19 or older, and registration requires a Facility Use Agreement, liability waiver, and ID copy.
Grab a friend, get active, and come enjoy some fun at the Community Building! Spring officially begins March 20, and warmer weather should be on the way — even if it doesn’t feel like it yet. It’s supposed to warm up by the end of the week we might even see 80 degrees.

Springfield History
The History of Firefighting in Springfield
Since the founding of the village of Springfield, fires were initially fought by dedicated volunteers. In 1905, the community came together to establish a volunteer fire department with C.W. Owen as president, E.J. Quinley as secretary, and C.F. Calhoun as fire chief. In those early
days, fires were tackled using a bucket brigade until a hose cart pumper became available to be either hooked up to a horse or rolled to the fire scene.
In 1936, a used GMC truck was refurbished and outfitted with a hose, ladder, and chemical tank by fire volunteers E. Donald Schmidt and Ted Mundell. The fire truck and firefighting equipment were stored in Kiger’s Garage, located at 205 So. 1st Street. Fire calls were handled there, and alarms were sounded from Kiger’s Garage.
