Mark your calendars — June 13 is going to be a full day of small-town fun!
We kick things off with the 5K run, followed by the pancake feed, the parade, and then the main event… our beloved rubber duckies quacking down Main Street. About 500 ducks will be racing, and there will be some really fun prizes along the way!
If you’d like to be part of the excitement, we could use your help gathering donations and supporting the event. It’s one of those days that reminds you why Springfield is such a great place to live.

Your involvement and encouragement mean so much to us and truly make a difference in our school community. The Introduction of 911 Emergency Services
On May 10, 1970, the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company introduced the first 911
emergency phone number for Douglas and Sarpy Counties. Earlier, in 1968, Congress
had designated 911 as the national emergency number. Prior to this change, local
residents would either dial “O” for the operator or use specific local emergency
numbers. In smaller towns like Springfield, many residents had memorized the contact
numbers for fire, rescue, and police. With the establishment of 911, it ultimately
became the universal number to call for emergencies involving police, sheriff, fire,
and ambulance services across the nation.

Did You Know? — The Start of Lent
This week marks the beginning of Lent, a season observed by many Christians leading up to Easter. Traditionally it lasts 40 days and is often a time people choose to slow down, reflect, and practice small acts of discipline — such as giving something up, serving others, or focusing on gratitude.
Even for those who don’t observe it religiously, the idea behind Lent is simple and relatable: stepping back from habits that distract us and being more intentional with how we spend our time and energy.
Many people use the season as a reset — whether that means less screen time, healthier eating, more patience, or reaching out to someone they haven’t talked to in a while.
However you spend the season, it’s a good reminder that small daily choices add up over time.
