FRIENDS OF THE SPRINGFIELD MEMORIAL LIBRARY

IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

This past Memorial Day we remembered those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. In the above photo, Ida Hanes, Grace Hike, and Bonnie Erhart, were honored as Gold Star mothers and sisters by the Springfield American Legion Auxiliary #143 in 1987. America’s Gold Star Families was founded to give hope, healing and honor to immediate family members who have lost a loved one in the line of service during military duty. Annual recognition is held each year during a Springfield Legion Auxiliary meeting to support our community’s Gold Star members.

M.U.D. & OPPD customers can apply for
state rental and utility assistance program
Renters and landlords who are struggling financially because of COVID-19 can now apply for assistance with rent and utilities under the state’s new Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The program, which recently launched, is funded through the U.S. Treasury as part of a federal coronavirus relief package.
Omaha Public Power District and Metropolitan Utilities District want to encourage customers who qualify for the program to apply. Customers within Douglas County, the City of Omaha, Lancaster County, and the City of Lincoln do not qualify for the state’s program because those areas are receiving federal funds directly. They will operate rental and utility assistance programs separately from the State.
To learn more about the state’s program, customers should visit coronavirus.nebraska.gov. They can also call 1-833-500-8810 to reach the state’s contact center for more information, including eligibility guidelines, documentation requirements, and additional utility assistance programs.
To apply, visit: https://mcrcares.servicenowservices.com/nebraska_rental_assistance
Customers may reach utilities directly to find out what other financial help may be available:
- For information on M.U.D.’s assistance program, customers may visit mudomaha.com/covid19relief or call 502-554-6666 in the Omaha area, or toll-free outside of the area at 1-800-732-5864.
- OPPD customers may visit oppd.com/EAP for more information. Those within the Omaha area can also call 402-536-4131 or 1-800-536-4131 toll-free, outside of the Omaha calling area.
