SARPY COUNTY HELP LINE

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office along with Sarpy County Human Services has established a help line for the citizens of Sarpy County during the COVID-19 pandemic event. Starting today, people who are sick, elderly, or caretakers of this demographic in Sarpy County may call the Sarpy County Sheriff Helpline at 402-593-1593 for needs such as picking up prescriptions, groceries, or other necessities. A uniformed Sarpy County Sheriff's Deputy will pick up and deliver these items in a marked police cruiser. IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

Spr Community Bldg

How many of us drive by the Springfield Community Building not realizing the building is on the National Register of Historic Places? The building was constructed during the depression years by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The WPA was established as a work relief program during the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt.  In 1938 the city of Springfield purchased vacant lots in the downtown area for delinquent taxes with the intention of using WPA money to build a community center. After construction in 1938-1939, the Community Building has been used for numerous activities throughout the years. In June of 1998, the Nebraska State Historical Society designated the Springfield Community Building as a Historic Site for the craftsmanship and materials featuring limestone keystones in the lintels, beaded mortar, and randomly placed stones with distinctive fossilized leaves. The Nebraska Historical Society noted there are no similar properties in east-central Nebraska. Please take time to view the Historic Site marker placed in front of the Springfield Community Building.

M.U.D. & OPPD customers can apply for

new state rental and utility assistance program

Renters and landlords who are struggling financially because of COVID-19 can now apply for assistance with rent and utilities under the state’s new Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The program, which recently launched, is funded through the U.S. Treasury as part of a federal coronavirus relief package.

Omaha Public Power District and Metropolitan Utilities District want to encourage customers who qualify for the program to apply. Customers within Douglas County, the City of Omaha, Lancaster County and the City of Lincoln do not qualify for the state’s program because those areas are receiving federal funds directly. They will operate rental and utility assistance programs separately from the State.

To learn more about the state’s program, customers should visit coronavirus.nebraska.gov. They can also call 1-833-500-8810 to reach the state’s contact center for more information, including eligibility guidelines, documentation requirements, and additional utility assistance programs.

 To apply, visit: https://mcrcares.servicenowservices.com/nebraska_rental_assistance

Customers may reach utilities directly to find out what other financial help may be available:

  • For information on M.U.D.’s assistance program, customers may visit mudomaha.com/covid19relief or call 402-554-6666 in the Omaha area, or toll-free outside of the area at 1-800-732-5864.
  • OPPD customers may visit oppd.com/EAP for more information. Those within the Omaha area can also call 402-536-4131 or 1-800-536-4131 toll-free, outside of the Omaha calling area.
