VETERANS CONCERT
Enjoy an evening of FREE, LIVE Music! The Nebraska National Guard’s 43rd Army Band will be performing at Urban Park, Springfield, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 @ 7:00 p.m.
The 43rd Army Band is commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Brian Anderson and consists of citizen soldiers who bring a wide variety of skills, talents and longevity to the unit. These soldiers hold a variety of civilian jobs and skills that contribute a great deal to the Band’s success. This group meets one weekend a month and 15 days during the summer to rehearse and fulfill military training requirements.
The 43rd Army Band is the Nebraska National Guard’s musical ambassadors performing at a variety of community and military events throughout the state. During annual training the 43rd Army Band either replaces a full-time Army band on an active Army installation or supports local communities and recruiters.
The Colonel George S. Howard “Citation of Musical Excellence” is awarded to active duty, reserve, or national guard bands by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Even though this is an annual award, military bands are only considered for this award every three years. The 43rd Army Band leads all active and reserve component bands with eight consecutive citations spanning 24 years of musical excellence.

The American Red Cross is partnering with the Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall to celebrate the holiday weekend by helping save lives. Nebraska Crossing will host the Red, White and You blood drive on Saturday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall, 21209 Nebraska Crossing Dr. in Gretna. All those who come to donate at the Red, White and You blood drive will receive a Red Cross lunch cooler, while supplies last.
Vacation plans and summer activities often cause donors to be less available to give, but hospital patients don’t get a holiday from needing blood. The Red Cross urges eligible donors to come out to donate blood and help ensure a sufficient supply for patients in need. Right now, blood and platelet donations are being distributed to hospitals as quickly as donations come in.
“Blood donations are needed every day for patients with many serious medical conditions,” said Blair Bonczynski, Red Cross Donor Recruitment Account Manager. “It’s the blood products on the shelves today that help save lives in an emergency, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need of transfusions.”
Use the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS and use sponsor code RedWhiteYouNE to make an appointment to give blood.
How to Donate Blood
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. To get started and learn more, visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass and follow the instructions on the site.
