Christmas Cookies & Giving Hearts — That’s How the Season Starts
Hey Springfield! Way to show some Christmas spirit!
The Cookie Walk was absolutely fantastic. We were treated to so many wonderful holiday goodies — gingerbread men, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, peppermint bark, thumbprint cookies, spritz cookies, chocolate crinkles, molasses cookies, Russian tea cakes, and oatmeal raisin cookies, plus all sorts of candy. It truly felt like the whole town was baking! And of course, the peanut brittle was a delicious standout — the perfect addition to the holiday spread.
A huge thank you to all the bakers for sharing your time, talent, and love, and to all the buyers for your support. This tradition wouldn’t be possible without you, and it’s a beautiful reminder of what makes our community so special.
Christmas really does start with giving hearts, shared treats, and a little shopping mixed in too. It’s a joyful way to celebrate the season, connect with one another, and spread cheer. I’ve definitely enjoyed my fair share of cookies this week!
Here’s to more holiday fun, sweet memories, and strong community spirit.

Westmont Elementary
Cold Weather Apparel
Please be reminded, we will go outside each day, weather permitting. It is very important
that your child arrives at school dressed for colder weather. We do have a few winter weather
items here in the office, however, sending your child with these items is very helpful.
Every year the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph's Church in Springfield very generously donates coats for children who need them. The cold weather is right around the corner, and we do go to recess outside every day, weather permitting. It gets cold, and every student needs and
deserves a warm coat, hat and gloves. Please plan ahead and check your closets to see what needs you have. Contact me to make arrangements for coats. I will need to know each child's age and size. We keep all requests confidential and discreetly get the coats to you. Please do not
hesitate to either call or email me at 402-895-9602 or
PLEASE do not hesitate to request coats

Traditional Springfield Library Christmas Party
In December 1992, the Springfield Public Library hosted its annual Christmas party, where the
Library Board of Trustees provided lunch for visitors. The event's highlight was a special
appearance by Santa Claus, who took the time to listen to each child's wish list. Santa also visited
with Librarians Alice Weighner and Shirley Buskirk, along with members of the Library Board.

Insurance Tip–
ESU#3 Driver Ed is in Full Swing and students are now driving. ESU#3 will offer classes January 17th, Registration January 7th.
Did you know many insurance companies offer discounts if your student completes Driver Ed? Farmers Insurance goes a step further — we won’t rate your teen driver at all! That’s a huge savings for your family while your student gains safe driving skills.

Fit Tip of the Week -
Step back… away from the Christmas cookies.
Better yet — hand them out instead.
Five cookies a day is a little much (yes, I’m talking to myself). Enjoy one, share the rest, and keep moving. Balance is the goal, not perfection.
Holiday joy tastes better when you don’t overdo it!

Christmas cookies trace back to medieval Europe, when spiced biscuits made with cinnamon, ginger, and sugar were rare and expensive—symbols of celebration and joy. Dutch settlers brought these early recipes to America in the 1600s, and by the 1800s, decorative cookie cutters helped turn them into the festive, gift-worthy treats we still share today (and leave for Santa!).
