Springfield Wednesday Newsletter - May 20th

Welcome Back!

Hey Springfield,School’s out for Springfield Platteview students, which means summer break is officially here!

Go celebrate with some ice cream at Springfield Old Fashioned Soda Fountain. Keith and his significant other have been working hard to make the soda fountain a special place for our community, so let’s show a little hometown pride, support local, and celebrate how much these kids have grown this year.

And with summer kicking off, that also means Springfield Days 2026 is right around the corner — and we need the community’s support to make it another great year.

There are plenty of ways to help:

  • Volunteer your time
  • Help with parade setup
  • Buy Lucky Duck tickets
  • Sponsor an event
  • Or simply show up and support the community

The library always has something going on for all ages, so be sure to stop in and see what is new.

 Lucky Duck Tickets

You can pick up ducks at the Library, Woodland Animal Hospital, Springfield ArtWorks, Keith’s Soda Fountain, reMain, and Horizon Bank. Every single duck sold matters — because every duck directly helps us reach our fundraising goal for the library and the amazing programs it brings to our community.

This isn’t just a fun event… it’s what keeps story time, summer reading, youth programs, and community events alive and growing. The more ducks we sell, the stronger our library becomes.

So grab a few. Grab more than a few. Sell them, share them, and help push us closer to the goal.

Also available:
• Gift cards for Dairy Cream (generously donated by Adam Stoskopf at Farmers)
• Gift cards for Mickey’s Tavern and the Blind Pig

If you would like to donate or get involved, please contact the library directly. Every duck truly helps support the Springfield Friends of the Library and everything they do for our community.

Farmers Market

Plan to stroll through the booths, grab something fresh, and make a day of it. Bring the kids, bring a friend, meet up with neighbors, or just wander and enjoy the summer energy.

MoPac Trail is right there if you want to walk it off or Bike cruise before or after. And yes—there’s even a winery right across the way if you’re making it a “grown-up afternoon out” kind of day.

Got something you make or grow? This is your sign—set up a booth and be part of the fun. You never know who’s been looking for exactly what you’ve got.

Join us at the VFW (13600 Pflug Rd). Spread the word.

Springfield History

In 1982, Springfield First United Methodist Church celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special service held on May 30th.

The ceremony was led by Rev. Elizabeth Beam, with Bishop Monk Bryan from the Nebraska Annual Conference in attendance. More than 225 guests gathered to mark the milestone, including Methodist bishops, former pastors, and visitors from across the region.

Church historian Trena Hagen presented a detailed and engaging history of the church, and a centennial sign was placed in front of the building to commemorate the occasion.

Special music was performed by Betty Jean Maystrick, accompanied by pianist Linda Moody.

Several long-standing members were honored during the celebration, including Viola Snider, the church’s oldest member at 100 years old, and Alta Treadway, who had been a member since 1916. Notably, 48 congregants had been members for 50 years or more.

The celebration reflected a deep legacy of faith, community, and lasting commitment.

Gathered in front of the centennial sign (left to right) were former pastor Rev. Lowell Gaither, Rev. Elizabeth Beams, former pastor Rev. Max McCamley, and centennial committee member Robert Shepler

Insurance Tip of the Week- Know What Your Insurance Actually Covers

Tornado season is here—now is the time to understand what protection you really have in place. Don’t wait until after a storm to find out gaps in your coverage. Better yet—bring me your policy. I’ll review it with you, explain what you have, and see if we can improve your coverage and price at the same time. — Farmers Insurance

Fit Tip of the Week: Routines work — Consistency Makes the Routine.

Consistency can take you further than anything else. As I focused on getting fit, I started journaling my food, workouts, and thoughts along the way. Those daily notes slowly turned into something bigger—a journal I’m currently working on called Treadmill Rambles. It’s still in production, but it’s a reminder that what you do consistently will eventually shape your direction.
