SARPY COUNTY HELP LINE

This program continues to help those in need!

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office along with Sarpy County Human Services has established a help line for the citizens of Sarpy County during the COVID-19 pandemic event. Starting today, people who are sick, elderly, or caretakers of this demographic in Sarpy County may call the Sarpy County Sheriff Helpline at 402-593-1593 for needs such as picking up prescriptions, groceries, or other necessities. A uniformed Sarpy County Sheriff's Deputy will pick up and deliver these items in a marked police cruiser. This helpline may also be utilized by the general public to make non-emergency police reports via telephone that do not require a police officer present in their home.

The following providers are participating in this program:

Walmart in Papillion
Target in Papillion (Groceries Only)
Bakers at 36th St & Twin Creek Dr
Bakers at 801 Galvin Rd (Pharmacy Only)
Springfield Drug (Pharmacy Only)

Please check the Sheriff's Office website and Facebook Page for any new updates to this program.

IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

history CorbyTransfer

Corby Transfer business hauled farm implements to the field

In 1933, John Harder owner of Harder Transfer, sold his business to R. S. Corby. Both Mr. Harder and Mr. Corby had been in the transfer trucking business for many years. Mr. Corby was well qualified to handle the additional business and give his new customers the same fine service as in the past. Along with his transfer company, Mr. Corby also had several newspaper routes for the Omaha World Herald.

Omaha Public Power District customers are reporting a spike in scam phone calls today, and this time, the callers have a new trick up their sleeves.

Scammers are spoofing, to make it look like they are calling from an OPPD facility, and asking customers to “press one” to make a payment. Be advised, these calls are NOT coming from OPPD, and they are NOT legitimate.

By late morning, OPPD had nearly 100 reports of these calls from customers, and that number is climbing.

This long-running scam targets utilities here in our area and across the nation. Calls tend to pick up steam several times a year. Right now, scammers may be trying to take advantage of customers who are feeling vulnerable due to the pandemic.

Their tactics are typically the same – falsely claiming to represent the utility and trying to convince customers they owe money. They can be quite aggressive in their tone, instructing customers to use a pre-paid card to settle up. They threaten to disconnect service if customers do not pay. They often use “spoofing” technology so that caller identification appears to show a legitimate OPPD phone number.

None of these calls are from the utility. Our call center representatives would never cold-call a customer demanding immediate payment. If customers were truly overdue on their bills to the point where service could be disconnected, they would receive written notice first. Authentic utility representatives never request payment via a purchased payment card.

Never give personal or financial information to a stranger during an unsolicited phone call. If such a person should appear at their door unannounced, claiming to work for the utility, ask for identification or verification. OPPD employees always carry identification. Failure to produce identification is a tip-off to the customer that something is wrong.

Customers who have questions about their bill status or in need of financial assistance should call us at 402-536-4131 in the Omaha calling area or 877-536-4131 outside of the Omaha area. We want to work with customers to set up workable payment plans or connect them with assistance resources. Financial help is available through the state, local organizations, and also through CARES Act funding. Call us or visit oppd.com to learn more.
