SPRINGFIELD ARTWORKS NEWS
Help Springfield ArtWorks celebrate their first anniversary this November. They will be hosting two teachers from Wisconsin who are both authors. A sampling of their work will be on the Springfield ArtWorks website soon. Spaces in the classes will fill up fast as these teachers are very knowledgeable in the felting and jewelry arena. Just by happenstance, Margie, the owner of ArtWorks ran into them at a Chicago area stitchery event and after seeing and purchasing some of their pieces, she immediately inquired about their availability in November for the week of ArtWorks anniversary. Margie commented, "Airline tickets are purchased, 4 area ladies are on the list and excitement is apparent around the gallery." Class samples will be in the gallery the later part of September. In addition to the classes on the 4th and 5th of November, Artworks will also be having an open house on Saturday, November 6 for the general public to attend. Mark your calendars NOW she says. It should be a fun event. More details will be out in future Springfield e-newsletters.
Springfield ArtWorks will be closed from Sept 4-20 and will re-open on Sept 21 at 1pm. They can be reached by phone at 402-301-9162.
The state tourism conference will be held in Lincoln from October 12-14. Trembley said, "Last year’s event was very beneficial for me. I hope other organizations from Springfield can attend this event since it is held so close to home." The principal speakers at these events are national speakers who really know the tourism market. Attending these events really gets the word out about our great community, Trembley said. There are scholarships available to attend the conference. Deadline for applying is Sept 13. FIDDLING BEE
Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the FOURTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 10, at 2:30 PM, in the auditorium of the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest. The prizes for the winners in the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place. Prizes will also be awarded for 1st place in the other contests. Registration for contestants starts at 1:30 PM the day of the FIDDLING BEE. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free.
