AMERICAN LEGION FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY

flag2.jpg

When the American Flag becomes soiled, faded, ripped or tattered and torn it must be retired and the proper method is for it to be burned.  This honor and privilege falls to a very select group and the American Legion is one of these groups.

June 14 is Flag Day and is an ideal time to fly the flag and to inspect your flag.  If it is determined to be the time to replace the flag you can drop off the old ones at the drop box (an old mail box) on the right side of the Springfield Legion building.  At our meeting on June 21 we will hold a retirement ceremony for all flags received.  This ceremony is open to the public, and we welcome school children as well as adults to witness this.  The ceremony will start at 7:00 P.M. behind the Legion Hall in Springfield.

Financial Peace University – What’s in it for me?

Financial Peace University is being offered to the entire community in August (exact date to be determined) at the Springfield First United Methodist Church. You may be asking yourself… What is Financial Peace University? What’s in it for me? And why would I want to commit my time to it?  Well, if you can answer yes to any of the following questions, you would benefit from Financial Peace University!

  • Do you use credit cards (not talking about debit cards, but true credit cards)?
  • Are you planning on using your credit card to fund your summer vacation?
  • Do you wish you had an emergency fund?
  • Do you and your spouse fight about money?
  • Are you still paying off Christmas from last year?  Or maybe even 5 years ago?
  • Do you have car payments and/or have the opinion that you’ll never be without a car payment?
  • Do you give into your desires for expensive “toys”, like boats, expensive cars, RV’s, computer equipment, etc?
  • Have you ever said “It’s only money, might as well spend it.”?
  • Do you want to send your kids to college without student loans?
  • Did you get a late start saving for retirement and now you feel like it’s too late?
  • Are you just starting out and want to make sure you retire comfortably?
  • Do you have month left at the end of your money?
  • Do you want to learn how to create a budget and stick to it?

Financial Peace University is a 13-week class that teaches you how to handle money wisely. Dave Ramsey, the host of a nationally syndicated radio program, which discusses personal finance topics, teaches the course via DVD. He strongly emphasizes reducing, avoiding, and eliminating debt. The information in the DVD is then reinforced with group discussion. The only cost to you is the cost of the course material.*  No gimmicks or sales pitches.  No “get rich quick” schemes.  This is real life information that can be utilized in your real world.

Watch for more information throughout the summer about this life-changing class.  Financial Peace University is for everyone; young, old or in between.  To find out more information about Financial Peace University and Dave Ramsey, visit www.daveramsey.com or call Suzi Miller at 253-3979.

Dear Survivors,
I'm writing to extend an invitation to participate in the American Cancer Society 2010 Relay for Life of Cass County. It will take place on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Plattsmouth High School. The planning of this annual event, which is in its 15th year, begins a month after the previous Relay. It’s a huge undertaking but a labor of love for all of our committee members. We want to help the American Cancer Society help all of you and your families in so many ways.
As cancer survivors you are what the Relay For Life is all about - you all are basically the "heart" of it and the reason we all work so hard to make it better every year. I became increasingly involved over the last several years because of my history with cancer (I'm a two time breast cancer survivor -and very proud of it!). Some of my fellow committee members are also survivors and of course we have all been touched by cancer involving loved ones as well.
What I'm asking of you is simple. Please plan to attend the Relay even if only for a short time. We need the opportunity to honor you with a survivor dinner at 5:30 PM (one caregiver for each survivor is also invited) and the celebratory survivor lap at 7 PM which is the start of the twelve hour event. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside all of you. Our goal is to honor 100 (men, women & children) survivors this year. Please keep in mind, we are not limited to only Cass County residents. We are reaching out to survivors near and far.
I ask that you either call our American Cancer Society Staff Partner, Megan Maryott at 1-402-393-5801 X70770 or logon to www.relayforlife.org/casscone and select "Sign Up As A Survivor" and complete the registration - there is no charge for survivors. We are running out of time so please do it soon. If necessary you can register at the Relay that evening too!
It's that simple - will you do it? It won't be quite the same without you!

                                            Very Gratefully,
