A fun 2008 Springfield Days Event 
 A “Welcome to Springfield Days 2009 Kick Off Meeting” is planned for Thursday, Jan 29th, 7 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Library. A new Chair person(s) is needed to coordinate Springfield Days! All interested, please attend this very important meeting.  We want to keep this event going!

 

The annual Valentine Luncheon at the First United Methodist Church will take place on Wednesday, February 4 at 12:30pm. The cost is $6.00 per person. Call to make your reservation by January 28. Phone the church office at 253-2270 or Alice Gottsch at 253-2293. It’s sure to be a lovely event!

Local young artists met at the Springfield Memorial Library for the first of a three - session Art Workshop for K-3rd grade students.  They had a fun time learning a printmaking technique with paint. Parents were excited to take home lots of refrigerator art! Next session…Printing with Food!!!

“I am looking for anyone who may have known my dad, Tony Rosato. Born, Anthony V. Rosato Jr. Tony lived in the Murdock area when he passed away of a heart attack at the young age of 39 in May of 1971. He worked for the railroad as a laborer. Tony was married to a lady with the nick name "Cookie" and they had a little girl together then divorced. I would love to find and meet my half sister. If there is anyone out there that may have known my dad and can help me please call Larry or Jane @ 402-934-2995. Thank you.”
 
One Book One Nebraska 2009 invites citizens across the state to read A Lantern in Her Hand, by Nebraska author Bess Streeter Aldrich. Through a broad-based nomination process, the Nebraska Center for the Book board narrowed the choices, read all the finalists, and voted to select A Lantern in Her Hand, a classic story of a pioneer woman who withstands the adversity of existence on the prairie to triumph in the joy of everyday life. A “Community Announcement” will be held on January 31 at 1:00 pm at the Elmwood Public Library with the Lieutenant Governor attending.  What an exciting event for our friends in Elmwood, NE!
 
Young writers, ages 9-12, are invited to attend a five –week workshop at Springfield Memorial Library beginning Tuesday, February 3.  Meet after school from 3:30 – 4:30 and learn how to write a creative story during the Young Writers Workshop.  Snacks will be provided. Please register by calling 253-2797 or stop by the library.
 
The St. Joseph’s Church Knights of Columbus are holding a Basketball Throw Contest on Friday, January 30 from 6-8pm at Platteview High School. The contest is open for all boys and girls, 10-14 years of age. An adult must accompany all participants. Need after school supervision for your teens? Area resident and parent of Platteview students, Celia Cruz,  is interested in providing a “Teen Center” in her home at 19820 S. 174 Plaza (near 174 & Cornish Rd.), Springfield.  For a fee of $40 per week, teens will be offered a choice of activities, homework help, or simply hang out with friends. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN SPRINGFIELD –The Calendar
January 24, 11am – 3pm – American legion Baseball registration at Springfield American Legion Hall. First time players need to bring their birth certificate.
January 24, 7pm – Meet Your Winemaker dinner at Soaring Wings Vineyard. A fabulous five course meal prepared by Chef Paul Pleskach with wines produced by Soaring Wings vineyard will complement each course. Seating is limited, so be sure to book your reservation. The cost is $65 per person.
 January 25 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  - Springfield VFW Post 9558 breakfast at the Springfield Legion Hall.  Pancakes, French toast, eggs, hash browns, ham and sausage with milk, orange juice and coffee included.  $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.  Come and enjoy!
January 30, 7pm – Springfield and Westmont PTO Movie Night at Springfield Elementary.
February 2 – 12pm – Senior Meal at First United Methodist Church. A free will donation is appreciated.
February 2 - 4-8pm  - Springfield Elememtary PTO Dine-Out Night at Hometown Cafe, Main St. & Hwy 50. A portion of the proceeds benefit the PTO. Support our local school & our local diner!
February 3, 3:30 – 4:30 – Young Writers Workshop at Springfield Memorial Library (first session of the five week workshop).
